Insects on the Move

Outdoor education provides us an opportunity to do cross-curricular learning.  We grabbed our Nature Trail Journals and headed out into our School Forest.  This activity combined the learning targets of:

• Studying insects....what makes them insects? are spiders insects?
• Using scientific inquiry
• Estimating
• Counting, 1:1 correspondence, tallying, counting by 5's
• Digging deeper... insects in the air, on plants, in the dirt, in the water
• Do insects lay eggs?
• Where do insects go in the winter?
• What do insects eat?  What eats insects?
• Insects are part of the food chain.
• Are insects harmful or helpful?
